TooAwesomeTuesday-Dating for Geeks

Well we have a new video up. Dating for geeks,. This is partial inspired by a date I went on recently and I had nothing in common with this guy because he wasn't into Harry Potter or Doctor Who or even Star Wars. (liike Really.. who doesn't like Star Wars)

So future dates must have something in  common with me...At the very least you have to like cats...

No I am not picky... I swear.

Cheers!

TooAwesomeTuesday-How To Dance Like the Doctor

This was the video we shoot yesterday. Ellie and I got together and talked about what we should do on our day off (we work at the same place) and we decided that there were so many Doctor Dance moves that could be done.

We now have a few other projects planned. Such as DC Dances, Marvel Dances and our favourite Fandoms.

If you like the video, please share and tell your friends as well as subscribe :)

Now I'm off to bake some nummies! I came home to a new stand mixer (never had one before) and now I need to try this baby out! Woot :)

Whovian cookies anyone?

Cheers!

Sunday 7 July 2013

Its a sleepy sunday... geek baking

Happy Sunday everyone!  Its been a week since the last day of leakycon and I've been in denial. Going to leakycon was the best decision I've made lately. I really hope to return next year. *fingers crossed*

Its also shown me how much I love certain things in my life. I love baking delicious treats and all things geeky and I came to the realization that one day I could open a geeky bakery. So that's a plan in my book if things to do. In the meantime I'm attempting to get another job at the local bakery for more experience :)

Our staff party is coming up soon and our boss is sending us girls to the spa while the boys go fishing. Yay awesome boss.

That's all for now.

Cheers!

LeakyCon Sunday and the Monday from Hell

It is now Wednesday and I am just catching up on all my posts.

We dropped by the center on Sunday around 10:30. There wasn't a lot going on so we headed downtown for some shopping as we were leaving the very next morning.

So Sunday was uneventful. I had hoped to find the TARDIS pub, but alas! I ran out of time as we visited some friends in Portland. But hey! It just means that I have to go back sometime next year.

Actually the goal is to make it to Florida next year for Leaky Con.. LET THE SAVINGS BEGIN!

Monday was a gong show. We were due back home at 11:30 at night in Kelowna (CANADA).

However when we reached the border at 5ish, we found out that we were the 12th bus in line. So we didn't make it across the border till 6ish, and we had another hour into Canada to connect to our bus that left for Kelowna... at 6:30. Sooo obviously we missed it and the next available one home was due to leave around 6:30 in the morning....

GREAT.

By the time we reached Vancouver at 7 I was in a pissy mood from not eating anything since 6:30 that morning and missing our bus home. All I wanted was food, a shower and cuddles with my cats.

What I got was my friend's boyfriend picking us up, getting some A&W and watching fireworks, Dark Knight and drinking Rum&Cokes. So overall not too bad. I caught the morning bus home and was reunited with my kitties and my famjam.

Fingers Crossed

See you next year LEAKYCON!

Cheers!

LEAKY CON SATURDAY... or an Abundance of Bowties

Okay so today was pretty awesome. We attended the Whovian meetup.. the unofficial one outside in the lobby because the main one was chalk full.

This is were Voldemort decided to crash the party. Max was the most adorable Voldemort I saw at Portland. He spent about 15 minutes at the Whovian meet up dancing around and cursing people and being just too cute. Sarina and I ended up leaving the meeting a little early due to our stomach's rumbling for some waffles at Denny's... where we ran into Max again!

They were waiting inline behind us for tables and as I was dressed as the TARDIS he promptly came up and told me that I must go back to NewYork 1938 and crash in the time vortex (oh no!). I had to tell him that the TARDIS needed fuel in the form of waffles before I could go on my journey. He didn't think much of that was was casting spells around Denny's. But man was he cute haha. So it was lots of fun waiting in line with them before we got some tables.I hope my future kids are into Harry Potter and Doctor Who as much as Max was.

There was another cute little guy at Tessa's dance video meetup. I didn't catch his name but he was a Hufflepuff like myself and proudly announced that during LeakyCon he was 9 3/4 years old! There was a lot of collective awww-ing and ooo-ing going on when they were both in the room.

We attended the Hank Green Nerdfighter meetup!! My friend Jesse was pretty jealous as Hank and John are on his idol list.

The dance that night was AWESOME in a supermegafoxyawesome way. I literally bumped into Hank was he was taking pictures with a girl dressed as the TARDIS. We partied all night with some cool people and ended up heading back around 11:30ish. One of the best parts about the dance was the (this is where the title comes in) abundance of bowties. Most guys there (they were a minority unfortunately) were wearing BOWTIES. WHY? CAUSE BOWTIES ARE FREAKING COOL THATS WHY. It was great! I loved it. I danced till my back started aching from all the hiphop I was busting out haha.

Again if anyone got photos with me, I'd love to see them!

For now here is a weeping angel...

Cheers!

LEAKYCON-FRIDAY

FRIDAY!

We were going to get up early to attend the lottery draw for signings and pictures but we opted to sleep instead. It was a late night last night due to us not feeling great.

However today was a different story! It was amazing. I got up and put my TARDIS dress on and heading off to the convention with my Doctor in tow.

Me a Dalek and the Doctor

We got stopped for lots of pictures today. It was so great meeting everyone and seeing other costumes!

We attended Literally, Not Literally and got an amazing viewing of their newest music video for Game of Thrones! Just so great and the girls sounded even better live then they do on their videos.

Dana from Literally, Not Literally

If you haven't checked them out do so right now!! Literally, Not Literally-Walk of Shame

I proceeded to attend Tessa's music video in the making. She's doing a video for LeakyCon with the song "I Love It" By Icona Pop. So much fun!! Can't wait to see the finished product and will post it when it's all finished.

I competed in the costume contest in the "Other" Category and won for Best Costume. They gave me a fez and a bowtie which was very cool. I think I forgot to pick up my medal but thats okay.

We also attended the Consulting Wizard's panel which was interesting. They sorted various Sherlock Characters into Hogwarts houses and I thoroughly enjoyed the discussion behind all of it. :) I almost won tea, but I had a blank moment haha. So excited for those who did win tea :)

There's a guy down at Whimsical Alley in the vendor room that is dressed as the Doctor. Definitely got photos with him!

I'll be heading back tomorrow since he is changing from 11 to 10 tomorrow and I'd really like a picture with him then too!

But much sleep is needed.

Cheers!!

LEAKY CON THURSDAY the real thursday

THURSDAY
To start off the morning we changed hotels again since they finally figured out our rooms. So we're back to where we were supposed to be. YAY.
While we were waiting to check into our rooms, we headed down to the convention centre and registered for Leaky Con. I felt like I was coming home.. It was the most wonderful feeling in the whole world seeing so many people dressed as wizards. What was even better was when we went downtown Portland to Powell's books store there were wizards everywhere. It was like when Voldemort was defeated the first time and everyone was out celebrating. It was fabulous!
Powell's book store

Today was opening ceremonies and they were cool. It was hard to see due to us being in the back but I enjoyed it anyways. The simple fact there were so many people here for Harry Potter was amazing!

We weren't even at the back of the ceremonies!

I checked out the vendor room. Some very cool stuff! Lot's of Harry Potter obviously and some Doctor Who and Sherlock mixed in. Lots of t-shirts but the coolest things I thought were HP themed soaps (that smelled heavenly.. except the Umbridge one.. that just smelled like Evil.. If evil had a scent) The best one was probably the Snape bar, (the soap Snape would use if he used soap...). I think I'll be going back tomorrow and picking some up! I would also love to get some tea, but I can't take looseleaf tea across the border to Canada with me as far as I'm aware. :( But if you are down here at Leaky Con and reading this... get some tea! Try it for me :P It smelled amazing and the testers tasted delicious.

Well I should get some sleep now. I've been trying for the past couple hours but with a headache and a skyping roommate sleep is resisting me :P

I will be out and about at the convention tomorrow dressed as the TARDIS ! :)

Wednesday 26 June 2013

PRE-CON THURSDAY that was really a wednesday...

So we got on a bus last night and have been on one for approx the last 18 hours. It sucked. It smelled and there were creepy people on it. However, we have arrived in Portland in one piece. We are now at the hotel we weren't supposed to be at.. (they lost part of our reservation) but on the plus side we'll be back with the hp people tomorrow and all will be well :)

Cheers

NOTE: I have just realized this is actually for Wednesday.... I am so scrambled.

LeakyConCountdown-AdventureTime!

This is how I feel right now. I'm all packed up (and hoping I haven't forgotten anything) and on my way to the bus station to catch the longest bus ride of my life.

Like seriously... 18 hours including layovers.

But it is going to be so worth it. One week in Portland for the biggest Harry Potter convention out there.

Leaky Con 2013.

Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games, StarKid, Not Literally Productions
5000 Harry Potter fans under one roof.
Awesome!

Posting will resume the week after I get back. But until then, enjoy this video of last years convention:

Cheers!~ Hope I see you at LeakyCon

LeakyConCountdown-Doctor Who Saturdays 2

Doctor Who Saturdays 2

Adagio Teas: Fandom Blends

So I got put onto this website through someone on Facebook. They are going to be handing out samples during a panel I'm going to at Leaky Con about Harry Potter/Doctor Who/Sherlock (Which was an instant yes for me when I saw it).

These are tea blends based off favourite books, movies and other popular things.

My favourite ones so far are the Doctor Who section and the Potter's Potions. While I have yet to try them, I'll definitely be reviewing them when I get back from Portland. They just sound so wonderful!

They have sampler sets that come in little tins for about $40, which isn't too bad for 10 custom sampler teas. I know I've probably spent that at a local tea store without the cute tins.

Cheers!

Psst... it's 3 days till I leave for Portland <3

LeakyConCountdown-FandomFriday (Harry Potter)

Fandom Friday

Harry Potter and the Convention of Awesomeness

This Tuesday night I'll be leaving for Portland to attend the best Potter Convention out there: Leaky Con.

It will be a great week with approximately 5000 Harry Potter fans and geeky wonders.

Harry Potter has been my favourite series of books since I was a child and it has continued on into adulthood.

This woman has basically made my childhood.

I honestly don't know what kind of person I would have become without Harry Potter. Harry Potter helped me with self confidence and taught me so many things. To be tolerant and to stand up for what is right, rather then what is easy.

Have you ever had a book or movie do that for you?

I hope so :)

Cheers!

So it's Thursday and my day off. I went out late and hit up the Irish Pub. While I was there enjoying some delicious drinks I thought about all the cool Potter drinks that I have yet to try. So here is one I can't wait to try! I actually had something similar to this tonight at a pub, but it had a wonderful amount of whipcream on it and more chocolatey..

LeakyConCountdown-TARDIS Facinator

TARDIS COSPLAY CONTINUED

One week from now, I'll be on a bus leaving Vancouver to Portland. Woooot!

The dress is now all finished. I've added the lettering to the belt and added the TARDIS signage.
This is a terrible picture but hey, it works...

The hat is finished as well! It's a very cute facinator created out of fabric, cardboard, ribbon and a solar powered yard light...

It will actually light up in the dark, which is the coolest bit!

I am now ready for anything :)

Vworp Vworp!

Cheers!

LeakyConCountdown-Ten's Tuesday Cosplay

Ten's Tuesday Cosplay-

It's a late tuesday to me right now, between school, work and getting ready for leaky con (7 days!)
I thought I should share my Tenth Doctor Cosplay costume.

The whole thing was put together fairly quickly. I already owned the pinstriped jacket and skirt. The blue shirt was picked up for 25 cents at a local thrift shop. The tie was my brother's and I already owned a pair of converse like white sneakers (not pictured).
The sonic was bought off amazon and I made the physic paper and 3D glasses.
Overall it's pretty cute and I can't wait to wear it out :)

Cheers!

LeakyConCountdown-MondayMovies THE HOBBIT 2

It is now Monday, my day off. There are 9 days left till I leave for LeakyCon and I'm packing... again.

I did take the time to squeeze in a movie though. I rewatched the Hobbit and can't wait for Part 2 (Desolation of Smaug) to come to theatres this winter. Not only am I in love with MiddleEarth (I'd like to live in a hobbit hole) but I also am incredibly excited to see how Martin and Benedict interact as Bilbo and Smaug the Dragon!

Here's the teaser trailer for Part 2:

LeakyConCountdown-SundayFather'sDay

So the post is a little late, but hey... no post on sundays ;)

We celebrated Father's Day and while my dad isn't a huge Star Wars fan, I found an awesome father's day bag that had Yoda on it saying, Reckless You Are, Borrow The Car You May Not. It reminded me of my dad, even if he did let me borrow the car all the time.

Inside I included some car washing stuff and a book called Vader's Little Princess. It's an adorable book and reminded me so much of me and my dad when I was a kid. Definitely check it out if you can. There's also a Vader and Son one as well!

He enjoyed it very much and was laughing while he read the book, so that's always a good sign.

So I leave you with this adorable picture.  Hedgehog in... a TARDIS. I now want one, and it's name shall be John.

DOCTOR WHO SATURDAYS

Featuring Megan Lara's Art

Doctor Who Saturday's are a thing at the shop I work at. Which might be odd because it's a pizza joint. But half the staff are Whovians. The other half just have to put up with it and wear blue on Saturdays.

Fashion ranges from space tights and Don't Blink shirts, to my favourite, which is a shirt drawn by Megan Lara.
She is by far one of my favourite artists out there and you can get her shirt's and prints through her Etsy shop as well as Redbubble. She is also occasionally featured one Shirt A Day sites such as TeeFury and YeTee.

I own her Allons-y shirt (pictured above) as well as her Luna Lovegood and Hermione. Other favourites that I'm keeping an eye out for are her Companion Pin Up series: Clara, Amy Pond, River Song, Donna, Martha and of course Rose.

She has many other fabulous designs outside of the Who and Potter verse as well. Zelda, Xmen, Deadpool are just a few that she also draws. Did I mention she also does one of the best Rose Tyler cosplays I have ever seen?!

So that's all for now.. I'm off to watch some Doctor Who!

Cheers

Friday 14 June 2013

LeakyConCountdown-FandomFriday-StarTrek

FANDOM FRIDAY's!

It's 12 days till LeakyCon 2013 Portland... let's watch some Star Trek and hope for warp capabilities

This week: STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS

While my parents aren't geeky nerdy folks, it is partially considered a requirement to watch Star Trek at least once in your life at their house.

After all.... I was named after the character Deanna Troi. We also share the same birthday month oddly enough... I'm not sure my parent's were aware of this when naming me.

Anyways, I have now seen Into Darkness a total of three times in theatres. For some this is not unusual, however for me it is. The most I will see a movie is twice in theatres. This has occurred only three times in my life, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Sherlock 2, and Avatar. I for the most part will patiently wait until it is released a few months later to rewatch with enthused excitement.

Why have I seen it so often? Because Benedict Cumberbatch has the most amazing sensational voice I have ever heard. (Yes... I do own BBC's Sherlock) He is also terrifying and made it worth watching a billion times over.

However..

There is one scene I'm glad they cut.

The Shower of Evil as pictured below:

I would have had a bout of hysterical laughter in the middle of a packed theatre if this had been in the movie. In fact when I did watch this scene online, that's exactly what happened... hysterical, almost crying, my sides hurt laughter.

I really admire Benedict's acting ability, and the fact he can say his own last name with a straight face. His voice impressions are fabulous, but this shower scene was too much. Too much evil and running water and something else? He looked like he was in pain/thinking too hard about some physic problem that has been pestering the universe. Like seriously, that's the face I used during my high school physics final.

Rating wise? It was  a great movie. I loved the story line, and how everyone acted in it. Scotty gets me everytime with his humour and Kirk's flirting is too fun.

Overall: 4.5/5
If there was more Cumberbatch in it, it'd be getting a 6/5

Till next time,

Cheers

LeakyCon Countdown-Thirsty Thursday (SONIC SCREWDRIVER)

Welcome to Thirsty Thursday...

Everything could be a bit more sonic...

It's 13 days till LeakyCon 2013 Portland starts and I'm already worried about packing, and crossing the US Border and getting lost and forgetting that important thing I need, and what if the hotel forgot our reservation and... panic panic panic.

So it's time to just relax and make a Sonic Screwdriver.

Now there are many recipes out there for the Sonic Screwdriver. This is one I altered myself and is a favourite among friends and family.

11's Green Sonic

1 shot Malibu Coconut*
1 shot Rose's Blue Raspberry Mix**
Fill with orange juice and stir

*(Malibu may be substituted for vodka for a more screwdriver taste, however I prefer Malibu)
**(Blue Curacao liqueur can also be substituted instead)

10's Blue Sonic

1 part Vodka
1 part Rose's Blue Raspberry Mix

Shake with ice and pour into glass

They've been pictured as shots here, but I have also had them in high ball glasses as well.

Cheers!

Leaky Con 2013-TARDIS Dress

So my mom surprised me with a TARDIS dress to wear while I'm attending Leaky Con 2013 in Portland, OR.

She made it from a floor length gown and a jacket. Unfortunately there was no in between sewing shots but there will be of the hat that I'm putting together this week to finish the look off.

I've paired it with some space leggings. The signage it all going to be added this week so I'll be posting more pictures with the fully completed outfit soon.

All that is left to do is finish the hat, add the POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX signage and the ST John's Ambulance sign.

Tomorrow's post will be all about the Sonic Screwdriver drinks!

Cheers!

Ironman 3 Arc Reactor cookies

With the new release if ironman 3 in theatres, I simply had to make cookies!
Arc reactor sugar cookies! *not guaranteed to save you from life threating situations.
I took my favourite sugar cookie recipe,  baked them up and decorated them with icing to look like little arc reactors. It was the first time I've used icing on sugar cookies ( I'm more of a sprinkles person) so they didn't turn out too bad.
Cheers!

Saturday 30 March 2013

I mustache you a question!

What do you think of these cuties?
Made from a old pair of heels that the pattern on them had gotten wrecked and a roll of mustache ducktape. Probably more suited for mustache movember,  but I think I'll be wearing them out this summer!
They were super easy to put together and now with duck tape offering so many cool patterns its a great way to spice up your shoes!
Happy crafting!

Thursday 7 March 2013

Last day before the big 20

Its my birthday tomorrow and I work,  so all my celebrating will be tonight and Saturday.  Though from the sounds of it my co-workers may be getting me a cake. So I figured lets start celebrating!
This little pumpkin looking drink is the Pumpkin King pudding shot. It consists of butterscotch pudding,  rum and whip cream. I actually didn't put as much rum in as called for. I ended up dumping 3 shots into the pudding mix when the recipe called for 1 shot to every 2 spoonfuls.  Mine seem a little strong but that could just be me. I like my liquor to complement the drink or dish.
If you're wanting to try this for yourself youtube pumpkin king pudding shot.

Friday 1 March 2013

Tardis Centerpeice

It the week long  count down to my birthday and I'm beginning to wrap up all my little projects.
This one was a Tardis Centrepeice for my cakes and drinks.

This is is a mid way point photo where my cat had to borrow it to go on a adventure.

It was created out of two cardboard boxes. One for the body of the tardis and one for the top. I then covered everything in paper and painted it royal tardis blue. The windows are made out of white construction paper and the police box sign was printed off, while the panels were simply drawn in. A fake tealight was drawn on and flickers appropriately when placed ontop of the Tardis.

For a hour long project it turned out fairly well.

Happy Crafting!

Harry Potter Shoes

Last night I was in possession of a Harry Potter Sticker Book ($2 at local dollarstore), a pair of sadly plain heels, and mod podge... so what did I do?

I made these babies...

At the time these were taken, they still needed some sealer on them (mod podge is sadly not waterproof... at least not the stuff I have)

Compared to my Batman themed shoes Here, the stickers made it much easier to work with then the paper. I placed the base/edge stickers on first then covered everything in a layer of Podge. Once that was dry I went on to use my favourite stickers to create the rest of the design. Once I was happy with that it got two coats of Podge and once that sets for 24 hours a sealer will be following ontop of it.

Happy Crafting <3

Happy 20th Tardis Birthday

So I'm turning 20 soon and I've decided that after going out for dinner and drinks we shall head back to my place for cake and drinks. :)

Enter the Doctor Who/ Harry Potter/ British love party.

Upon decided I'd decorate and theme the party around my favourite things I started researching the Doctor Who side of the party. (I already have decorations from a previous Harry Potter night). I found out something interesting.

When you google Harry Potter Party, millions of photos and posts show up... like so many ideas and pictures and everything!

I figured the same would happen for Doctor Who.

I am either wrong and have not put the correct string of words into the search bar or there isn't a lot of evidence of Doctor Who themed parties. Let alone for adults. I found some cute cupcakes, an outlet store across the ocean that sells Doctor who cups and masks, but other then that... zip. Nothing overly inspiring. I've encountered plenty of photos of the cast and crew and Tardis cakes.

So out into the unknown I go party planning.

I've come up with the following;

TARDIS DOOR over my own front door. "Party is bigger on the inside"
Serving sonic screwdriver drinks (I have found a recipe for this!)
TARDIS Cups
For these I just took blue SOLO CUPS and some white peel stick paper and for the signs I printed those off onto the peely stick paper. Police Box signs were hand done with a Sharpie. Overall they're pretty cute.

I'm also baking either sugar cookies or little cupcakes which will be decorated with the British Flag.

I think I'm more excited about decorating for this then anything else. Well... except attending Leaky Con Portland this summer. <3

Cheers!

Batman Shoes (DIY)

So while being sick over a wintry holiday, I was googling all sorts of fun projects to do once I was feeling better. One of these was DoItYourself shoes.

So after finding about all the wonderful uses of ModgePodge, comic books and highheels I have ventured out to try my own.

Instead of cutting up my favourite comic books, I printed off images from the internet. They worked wonderfully well actually. Just as well as magazine cut outs. (I had the Cineplex one about Batman) So armed with a sponge brush, ModgePodge and a Ex-Acto knife I set to work.

Several hours later I have finished with my creation.

BAT SHOES...
some of the photos were taken while in progress, and the others still have glue drying on them.

But I adore these. Especially for a first try. Next project Potter or Doctor Who themed shoes.
